Frocktober!

hey guys! just wanted to do a quick post today. heard about frocktober earlier this week, and while i don't have an awesome frocktober frock from modcloth, i did want to share some pictures of the frock i wore today:

dress from my awesome friend/auntie in chandler! she's so sweet.

our humble abode 8)

damn i am so sick of cleaning mirrors!!!

haha my hair is crazy. sorry these pictures aren't better! today was a beautiful day, but i literally had no time to take any pictures 8( hopefully my friends and i can take better ones on sunday. exciting news to share with y'all soon! 8D

here is the inspiration for this outfit:

sorry, not sure where the picture came from! maybe dustjacket attic? not sure, so i don't want to link back if i'm wrong. but either way, lovely, right?!

Fresh Colors

hey! been so long...exams are killing me. more so because i cannot seem to get in the studying groove. i keep convincing myself i don't need to do practice problems, which is such a LIE, because practicing in your head does not bode well for math based tests. 8( so i thought i would take a break from non-studying and do a quick post that i've been meaning to do for at least two weeks now.

has been raining here a lot recently, and it makes everything look so clean. and bright. like the world has been scrubbed, shined, and sprinkled with glitter. it's amazing: the colors look so fresh. some pictures my friends and i took when walking back from brunch last week:

sweetie roomie sent me the pictures off her camera (i didn't bring mine!) i'm going to start carrying my camera everywhere, because there are so many great picture opportunities everywhere. like the umbrella prop? there weren't that many other props handy as we were walking ;)

some pictures i took in the library the other day. we have an exhibit on sadako's thousand paper cranes (read the book if you haven't done so already) that i really love, so i wanted to commemorate it before it goes away.

students made all the cranes! i used to make them out of dum-dum wrappers all the time; will have to refresh my memory on how to do it. tried when i took these pictures, but failed epically (the instructions were in japanese, so no judging! D8)

Refashion #19: Navy Beaded Pants

okay it has been forever. i've delayed this because moving in and starting classes has taken a lot of time, and i haven't had a chance to do any sewing since i got here. i was going to add something more fun to this post, but as it is i only have some cool pictures i have taken that i want to show you. hopefully i will be working on refashioning soon; one of my friends brought two things that she wants to fix that we can share with you. but with the amount of homework the teachers have been doling out, that may take a bit of time ;)

the before:

these are size 11 pants of my mom's. i have wanted navy pants for a while, since mine from like 6th grade didn't fit me anymore. these are really pretty!

the bottom cuff on the left side had come undone, so that also had to be sewn up, along with the tightening of the legs. the waist is elastic, so that didn't need to be fixed.

the inspiration:

i was originally going to do triangles of sequins, but i didn't have enough, so i used the four pair squares on the pant legs instead.

the finished product:

not completely skinny pants, but skinnier. i'd accidentally tightened the left leg too much the first time i did this, so i had to take it out. really uncomfortable.

so you can't really see, but the sequins are grouped in fours. a little extra sparkle. my mom really liked this alteration, so i will have to take an actual outfit picture for her. i feel like i have stacked up so many outfit pictures i have to take. sigh. LE sigh. gaga ;)

color-blocked walls ;) this is in alpine atrium, one of the places we like to eat on campus. great turkey sandwiches and smoothies.

awkwardly, that is my physics recitation TA. i was trying to hide from him (i'm pretty sure he thinks i'm a big dummy). the wall next to him is BLUE! almost carolina blue (BLECH) but not quite, so that's good.

the top looks pink here! wish the frames weren't crooked, but i think these are really pretty colors 8D

hopefully we will take lots of pretty pictures on the retreat coming up this weekend (Lake Gaston) so i hope to share those with you. if not, my friends and i will be going on a photo safari soon, so those photos should be up here soon ;)

Two Primaries

still working on my latest refashion... D8 but i painted my nails today, and the colors really struck me as fun, so i took some pictures to share with you guys:

semi-patriotic nails! if only i was skilled enough to give them white tips. put another quilt (katha) over my other one on my bed (get cold in the early morning) and i really like the full red. it really brightens up the room.

other hand.

on the scarf and skirt i was wearing. i was wearing fun colors today, but i didn't document the rest of me because i looked pretty tired. i'll probably wear it another day for you ;)

fun bookmark my friend gave me! and the nail polish i used. revlon royal (DUKE BLUE!) and fire fox.

the red is 'matte suede' which i didn't like when it first dried since it's not shiny, but now i do. it catches the light nicely, and the glitter specks inside are fun.

basically illustrates my day. furiously reading an agatha christie, because once i start i can't stop, and painting my nails. i also made some beds, but that's not as much fun to photograph, now is it? maybe it is, i may try it tomorrow ;) we can make anything artistic, non? -> channeling poirot

i really did love the green rings with the red and blue. i wish i could have gotten my mom to take a picture of my hands, so you i wouldn't have had to settle for self-timer, but she's sleeping. as you should be.

Comfort in the Sun

today was a comfy outfit day 8)

i know i have already featured this shirt on this blog, but i didn't realize HOW MUCH i loved it until i wore it again. seriously. so comfortable.

took a lot of pictures of just the garden too:

bumblebee on bean plant!

just realized when you overexpose pictures, it sort of looks extraterrestrial. like in this awesome video:

bean plant arch my mom shaped with wire. there is another one amongst the other vegetables, but it's been growing so crazily you can't really see it anymore. you can see it in my Refashion #11 post.

banana peppers!

loving the mixture of green, yellow, red, and white. such bright summer colors.

we have this tree in our backyard, and i want to sit under it, but the sap on it is sweet so lately we have these HUGE hornet things swarming all over the tree. IT'S TERRIFYING. 8(

favorite part of our garden. i just love the path. it reminds me of the path to Ms. Honey's cottage in the book Matilda by Roald Dahl, illustration by Quentin Blake. i would love to see that cottage, if something like it existed.

sorry for the picspam, but i also took some pictures yesterday:

my mom had washed and starched her whites and hung them out to dry on our dining room chairs. i'd never seen our dining room chairs out on the deck before, and i think the two wood colors really complement each other. plus the sun was hitting all the green in just the perfect way.

i leave you with this:

scary, right?
